The highly anticipated and wildly successful Spring Salon group exhibition of current members’ artwork returns.
Held in the Studio and Performance Spaces in the Basement of the Hawthorn Arts Centr. A strictly limited run over one weekend.
The Gala Opening Night will be held in the Studio from 6pm on Friday 22 November, to which all HAS members, family and friends are welcome.
Held at the Kilburn Hotel (in the Whisky Room), 348 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn at 6pm on Tuesday 12th November 2024. We will not be in the studio.
Every financial member of the Society is welcome, has a right to attend and to vote. A member may appoint any other member as his or her proxy to vote and speak on his or her behalf. A form appointing a proxy must be given to the Chairperson of the meeting before or at the commencement of the meeting. A form sent by post or electronically must be received no later than 24 hours before the commencement of the meeting.
This is a repeat of the workshop from the weekend before.
Godwin brings his substantial photographic background to bear with his distinctive modes of drawing, referencing primitive, classical and contemporary aesthetics of many cultures and disciplines.
Godwin’s work is included in the collections of the Australian National Gallery, the National Gallery of Victoria, The Art Gallery of NSW and many other prestigious international collections.

The 2 session workshop will make use of Godwin’s extensive teaching experience.
Session one will be based around a life drawing session with short and long poses including anatomy, historic context, linear and tonal practice, analysis and demonstration.
Session two will focus the study themes on the head, with two life models sitting in the studio.

Come to our regular, last Sunday of the month en plein air event, to be held in the stepped, paved open space, just outside the HAS studio. Close to a variety of food options, plus tea, coffee, and cleanup facilities in the studio. Handy!
This event will be part of our Open House Melbourne activities. Come along and enjoy the company and the vistas of this versatile location.

In both workshops Lewis will demonstrate and talk through the process he follows developing a portrait. Students will learn tips on colour modelling shade and light in oil paint, from this highly awarded Archibald Prize winning artist.

Over the two sessions you will join Erica Wagner and discover the joy of creating new compositions, using your own discarded works on paper and other collage elements. Being prepared to destroy in order to create, can liberate the artist and add depth and interest to your work.

In sessions over two consecutive Sundays, Graeme will help you explore ways to hone observational skills of direct and intense observation. His enthusiasm for capturing portrait subjects in several hours will be illustrated with examples of previous work and a demonstration painting using his colour palette, colour mixing, roughing in and rich paint stroke finish.
