Paint with oils. Paint from life.

WITH JIM MOODY

Have you always wanted to learn to paint and have a crack at oil paints but not sure how to start? Perhaps you’re already painting and not sure the right way to proceed using oils?

Melbourne painter Jim Moody teaches an introduction to painting designed to help you refine your skills in observation and equip you with the confidence to proceed with your art journey working in oil paint.

The course starts in the studio, setting up, looking and working directly from simple “still life” subject in a very direct and archival correct painting method.

You’ll be painting in a small group with plenty of individual coaching in a comfortable and supportive environment using a simple approach to techniques and materials. You’ll have plenty of time to work on paintings, initially over a number of sessions with one painting taking 2 to 4 weeks. Ongoing, the course might develop for students to paint the figure, portraiture or even landscape outdoors depending on how the group develops.

The course will continue over 8 week terms throughout the year, and explores ways of looking, analysing tonal values, colour mixing, techniques and materials. Jim will also have short tutorials on related subjects such as different ways of starting a painting, different surfaces and “grounds” to paint on and demonstrations on stretching your own canvas.
