Susie is mostly self-taught. For a number of years, she has been painting in a beautiful stable repurposed as a studio in Kangaroo Ground in the Yarra Valley. In this quiet location, she has been continuously experimenting with her art practice. Her repertoire includes portraiture, landscape, life drawing, and the poetic.

In 2020-21 Susie was a recipient of an Annual Arts and Culture Grant, through the Nillumbik Council for her current project titled “For the one whose voice was silenced”. This series of paintings depicts the story of her family as war refugees and took place in October 2022 at Montsalvat.

In 2020 Susie was a finalist in the Perceval Portrait Prize (Qld) and the Gosford Regional Art Prize (NSW).

In 2021 Susie was a finalist in the Gosford Regional Art Prize (NSW) and the National Capital Art Prize (Canberra).

Exploring your inner artist - studio term course

Picasso said: “Every child is an artist. The challenge is to remain an artist once we grow up”. This course is not about getting it right, but rather about finding your own artistic language through experimenting and liberating your innate creativity. Through various techniques and exercises and by providing a supportive environment, Susie invites less experienced artists to explore their untapped creativity and for experienced artists to experiment with new ways of creating. The result is greater confidence in your ability to authentically express yourself.

Each week we will explore a different topic including abstract, portraits, self-portraits, landscape, life drawing and more. For inspiration, we will look at the works of famous artists which relate to the topic of the week, and we will engage in a range of exercises designed to increase our confidence, freedom and repertoire.

Thanks, Susie for a wonderful experience in your Exploring Your Inner Artist Course. It was great to challenge my mindset and not be too precious with art making. I loved being able to experiment and have fun with new mediums and techniques, and even new techniques with familiar mediums!!!

I really enjoyed the variety of class topics over the eight weeks and the insightful discussions about other artists; works and general art practice issues. All delivered with clear instruction and practical demonstrations in a very supportive and encouraging way. I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to expand the way they go about making art! Loved every minute! Lynn

I thoroughly enjoyed Susie’s classes. With her project based learning she did a great job in keeping her classes both participative; interactive.  By the end of the term I found many new creative skills supported with some great encouragement, tips and direction.  Costas

I’ve loved the adventure of Susie’s painting class this term! We have learnt how to loosen up in our painting, so that our work is more expressive and engaging. Susie has generously & methodically shared her process techniques which I hope to continue using in the future. Thank you! Traecey

I was so impressed with this course - Susie’s attention to detail is second to none. The exercises she designed for us were most instructive. All of them were thoroughly researched and prepared. I learnt lots from Susie ! (and I’ve done many courses in my art life.)
I would recommend this course to anyone - beginner or advanced.
