Expand your skills and unleash your creativity in the new 10-week Printmaking course at HAS.

In this 5-week course, you will have the opportunity to learn and explore different printmaking techniques including monotype, linocut and drypoint etching on copper.

These classes will introduce artists to the possibilities of printmaking techniques, provide knowledge of materials and how to apply different skills for desired results across all mediums.

It will be a hands-on and enjoyable course in a very engaging environment to push your own practice into the realm of printmaking and pick up some new skills along the way.

All equipment and materials will be supplied for these classes.

About Jenn Tarry-Smith

Jennifer Tarry-Smith is a Melbourne based artist working in the medium of printmaking and painting.

Jenn was awarded a print Residency at the Scoula Internazionale di Grafica, Venice, after completing her Bachelor degree in Drawing and Printmaking at the Victorian College of the Arts. Her determination to explore technique and subject has resulted in participation in over 25 local and international exhibitions in the last 4 years alone!

Currently teaching printmaking at RMIT and VCA, Jenn is continually expanding her skills, most recently by attending the Summer Course for Fine art Lithography at Tamarind in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Week 1 Monotype - materials introduction to press and process

Week 2 Monotype - 2 plate colour, mediums and ghost prints

Week 3 Monotype - stencils, fabrics, textures and emossing

Week 4 Linocut - effects, tools & techniques, texture and contrast

Week 5 Linocut - setting the press, embossing, inking and altering

Week 6 Linocut - 2 plate registration, colour and combining techniques

Week 7 Drypoint - tools and paper, techniques, plastic plate exercise

Week 8 Drypoint - preparing copper, draw, extensive tools & techniques

Week 9 Drypoint - progressing work, paper prep setting press, ink

Week 10 Drypoint - Chine-collee, 2 plate printing, materials experimenting


All students will need to bring an apron. Nitrile (chemical resistant) gloves will be supplied. Be aware that common printing mediums and chemicals will be used. Wear appropriate clothing.

Refunds may only be considered in truely exceptional circumstances and will be at the discretion of the Studio Manager. HAS does not offer 'change-of-mind' refunds.

If you are at all unwell do not attend sessions at HAS. If you have tested positive, or feel you may have COVID-19, do not come to the studio until a week after you have recovered.
