About Jacqui Stockdale

Jacqui Stockdale is a Naarm/Melbourne-based contemporary artist known for her distinctive exploration of Australian history, folklore and marginalised narratives. Her practice spans photography, drawing, painting, collage and performance, often incorporating elements of masquerade and ritual.

Growing up in regional Victoria, Stockdale graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 1990, where she now lectures and is completing an MFA. Her work is held in major collections worldwide, and her recent series Angel at My Table was awarded Best of the Melbourne Art Fair in 2024.

Her art often plays with absurdist theatres of desire and leans into the shadowy realms of the unconscious. At the core of her practice is a fascination with the human body — from the physicality of her drawings and paintings to her performative photographs and surreal collages that conjure dreamlike creatures from found forms.
