With Mark Dober
Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 January 2017

Where:  We will be painting at the charming and quiet village of Taradale, in the goldfields of central Victoria. Taradale is on the Old Calder Highway – accessed by taking the Malmsbury/Taradale exit from the Calder Freeway.  It is a one and a half hour drive from Melbourne.

On the Saturday we will meet at the Taradale wine bar 10:30 am – 11am. We will have morning tea on arrival. We will then proceed to the Taradale site where we will paint for the day. The workshop will start at 11:30 am and conclude at 4pm (4.5 hours).

Participants are asked to provide their own lunch on the Saturday.  I have booked the Taradale wine bar for dinner on Saturday evening. The wine bar (which exhibits curated art exhibitions) offers wood fired gourmet pizzas work and has a pleasant beer garden

Sunday’s workshop will commence at 10 am.  A picnic style light lunch will be provided where we paint. Tutoring will conclude at 4pm (6 hours).

Note: where we paint, and on which days, will depend on the weather.  This is because while one of the sites (in the village) has good shade, the other site –see my painting – does not provide any protection from the elements. Therefore, site arrangements for the weekend will be confirmed at the Saturday morning meet up/morning tea.

Poor weather arrangements:  due to challenging weather it may be necessary to reorient our painting to the Malmsbury Botanical Gardens.  A rescheduling of our workshop to the following weekend could occur if substantial rain or extreme weather were forecasted.

Aims of the workshop:

I will be demonstrating in oils.  You can work with other painting media (including watercolour) if preferred. I will be advising you to bring several canvases, and of different sizes and formats, so that you have options to paint as circumstances and time permit.  A materials list will be provided.

You will be shown how to paint with directness and confidence. I will show you how to see and mix tone and colour. You will be shown how to construct your painting step by step (and how to avoid muddying your colour).
