Workshop series September ’18
Monday 24 & Tuesday 25 September
Wednesday 26 & Thursday 27 September
Limited places still available
9.30am to 4.30pm
This engaging and important contemporary artist returns to Australia from working in Germany. Heather Betts will offer Hawthorn Artist Society member’s workshops for groups of up to 16 participants, working in acrylic and mixed media.
Heather enjoys the physicality of paint and wants people to share that love of the materials, expressed as uninhibited, layers of mark making.
Workshop one - 24 and 25 Sept
Participants will work rapidly, influenced by Heather’s energetic methods and enthusiasm; concentrating on layers, spontaneous gesture; overcoming perceived blocks and understanding colour.
Artists may be beginners, or established painters wanting to try alternative approaches.
Students will train the eye to recognise when things are working well; when specific techniques have been achieved; how to loosen up and also understanding when to stop!
Over the two days participants will produce a few, or even many new finished works, mainly on paper.
Workshop two - 26 and 27 Sept
This more advanced group will build on the previously introduced themes in order to build a body of work. Students should have experience of Heather’s practice (perhaps in the earlier workshop), or have attended other expressive workshops and be familiar and at ease with the materials.
Skills will be taken further, and each student will be encouraged and inspired to develop their ideas more rigorously as a polished suite of related paintings in the 2 day period. Bring between 4 and 8 smaller canvases (pre primed) or quality paper/card, all of one size.
