Heather Betts

2 day painting workshop

This important contemporary artist returns to Australia from working in Germany.

Her ongoing time in Berlin with expressionism, will provide insights into Heather's deep knowledge and experience for 16 participants over 2 days. Work will be in acrylic paint and mixed media.

Heather’s wonderfully infectious energy will have participants working rapidly on several paintings at once, to quickly test ideas, open possibilities and then develop larger works through many layers. Learn how to start and know when to call a piece finished. Learn new possibilities from an introduction to the complex underpainting, vibrant colours and powerful, seemingly distilled, drawn images that identify Heather’s work.

This artist’s previous workshops at HAS have sold out within a week of release.

All places are currently filled. We are taking names for a waiting list; see the Workshops page. Cost per participant is $200 (HAS members), and $230 for non-members (this automatically confers a membership for the 2018 calendar year). Materials list and further news will be emailed to those who secure a place.

Class fee must be paid at time of registration. EFT BSB 063138 and Acct No 00901737 Please identify payment by name and membership number; or surname and initials and “Betts”

Phil Kreveld — The Voyage

An exhibition from one of our talented members.

Phil Kreveld’s exhibition references his cultural heritage and universal themes. Phil said that one’s voyage through life is perceived looking back, and that his paintings look back through his Jewish roots becoming distinguishable, impelling him to reflect on διασπορα (diaspora). Originally referring to the scattering of Jews, he attempts to show that cultural heritage and shared humanity more than native soil not only define us, but create bonds we break at our peril.

Artist’s floor talk. Friday 28 July at 12.30pm

Glen Eira City Council Gallery Corner Glen Eira and Hawthorn Roads, Caulfield

Admission is free

Painting the Clothed Figure Class with Mike Kowalski

Capturing the essence of the figure in watercolour is challenging. The best watercolours, to me are confident and direct, with a bold use of color. Learning to see and identify color and it’s temperature will make our job a bit easier. We will spend some time constructing a solid figure drawing working on simplifying form. The addition of clothing will add some colour punch and drawing challenges. Learning to mix good colour, playing with dramatic lighting and interesting poses should make a pleasurable experience with watercolour.

CLASS DETAILS

Class commences Tuesday, 14 February, and runs for three further consecutive Tuesday sessions till 7 March, times 10 AM till 1 PM. Venue: HAS studio, Hawthorn Arts Centre, 360 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn 3122 Cost for members, $200 Cost for non-members $250
